Evol’s Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

At Evol, our commitment to good food goes well beyond ingredients and taste: we strive to produce sustainable foods, carbon neutral products, and sustainable frozen food packaging. Food sustainability is a driving force at Evol. We currently offer several ClimeCo (formerly CarbonFund) Certified Carbon Neutral Products to help protect our environment for years to come.

What Carbon Neutral Products Are Offered by Evol?

Evol will begin offering eight fully carbon neutral products in summer 2022 as part of our ongoing food sustainability efforts.

  • Five Cheese Alfredo Mac with Chicken
  • Truffle Parmesan Mac & Cheese
  • Fire Grilled Steak
  • Portabella & Goat Cheese Ravioli
  • Butternut Squash & Sage Ravioli
  • Chicken Enchilada Bake
  • Chipotle Chicken Mac & Cheese
  • Teriyaki Chicken

What Does Carbon Neutral Mean?

In short, being carbon neutral means offsetting the amount of carbon dioxide you emit into the atmosphere. Evol has partnered with ClimeCo to find the best ways to offset our Certified Carbon Neutral Products’ impact. The first step toward creating sustainable foods and becoming carbon neutral was to understand the relevant products’ initial carbon impact. Evol enlisted a third party to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which calculated the carbon footprint of the eight products so that we could work to take action to reduce and/or offset our emissions in the future.

Read Evol’s Life Cycle Assessment

Using the findings from our Life Cycle Assessment, we were able to take the next step toward making the eight products Certified Carbon Neutral. For any emissions that our carbon neutral products do release, Evol supports renewable wind energy and forest conservation. Renewable wind energy reduces carbon emissions today, spurs investment in clean technologies, and helps create a low-carbon economy tomorrow, while forest conservation projects remove CO2 from the air and focus on planting and maintaining forested areas for the benefit and sustainability of future generations. Conagra Brands, Inc. 2022 Citizenship Report details certain efforts regarding greenhouse gas emissions reductions and our products, including statements regarding certification of certain Evol branded products by Carbonfund.org Foundation as “Certified Carbon Neutral” through the Carbonfree Product Certification Program which program has been transitioned to ClimeCo.  As part of the Carbonfree Product Certification Program, Conagra commissioned a third-party life-cycle assessment completed by WAP Sustainability Consulting, LLC to measure the carbon footprint of its eight Certified Carbon Neutral frozen single-serve meals, and then offset the identified carbon footprint with investments in renewable wind energy and forest preservation projects verified by ClimeCo (or its predecessor Carbonfund.org).

As part of the certification of Evol brands products as “Certified Carbon Neutral”, Conagra R&F (PF), LLC, a subsidiary of Conagra Brands, Inc., purchased carbon offsets from the following programs or projects:

Evol’s Food Sustainability Efforts Go Beyond Carbon Neutrality

Creating carbon neutral products is just the beginning. Evol strives for sustainable frozen food packaging. In fact, all of our paperboard cartons are recyclable, and we made the switch from 100% plastic bowls to paper-based bowls, which lowered the carbon footprint of our packaging by nearly 80%! Additionally, several Evol products - including all of our carbon neutral products - are produced in a TRUE Zero Waste Certified Facility, meaning that our facilities have diverted an average of 90% or greater waste from landfills or other waste reductions in the last 12 months.
